One or two tangerine peel and one or two gold, more expensive than gold, is a treasure that has been passed down for nearly a thousand years. It is processed by the procedures of peeling, drying and aging Xinhui orange peel locally planted in Xinhui District. It is one of the top ten southern medicines in Guangdong and became the first batch of varieties of Lingnan traditional Chinese medicine in Guangdong Province to be protected by legislation in 2016.
"Compendium of Materia Medica" and "Handbook of Traditional Chinese Medicine" all record the medicinal functions of Xinhui tangerin peel. It has the effects of regulating qi and invigorating the spleen, drying dampness and resolving phlegm. It has the reputation of "century-old tangerin peel, thousand-year-old ginseng" and "the soul of Cantonese cuisine". It is deeply loved by the people of Lingnan.
Xinhui tangerine peel and its only raw material, Xinhui orange, are protected by national geographical indications, and are rare "one fruit and two marks" products in the country. Only those produced in this specific area of Xinhui District, using the special variety of Xinhui mandarin orange as processing raw materials, using the three-petal type to open the skin of Xinhui mandarin orange and other specific processing techniques, and aging in the local natural environment of Xinhui for more than three years, can be called authentic "Xinhui tangerine peel".
For hundreds of years, the processing skills of Xinhui tangerine peel have been passed down from generation to generation among the people of Xinhui, becoming the most representative intangible cultural heritage pearl of Xinhui. In 2021, "Xinwill tangerin processing technology" was selected into the national intangible cultural heritage representative project list.
